Saying No + Cartwheels

Megan Merry

“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” ― Warren Buffett

To me, this quote says: Make time for yourself, your family, to dream, to be curious, to explore, to make time for the projects YOU value instead of always trying to please someone else.

Saying no is hard. It’s something I personally wrestle with, and don’t feel alone in. Over the past several years I’ve challenged myself to pause and ask myself whether or not I’ll find this project energizing before giving an answer. (Granted there are times when I just have to say no — I am not willing to risk over-promising or sacrificing the end goal on a project... even if it's a project I am passionate about.)

What I’ve noticed is the more I work to embrace saying no, the better I’m finding my professional (and personal) life. It’s a matter of creating space for the opportunities that make me want to do cartwheels down the hall—instead of missing out because I’ve said yes to all the other projects that simply weigh me down.

My philosophy: Embrace the cartwheel moments and be the best possible you.

Winter Wedding Invitations

Megan Merry

Our meetings were held via FaceTime, since the couple I worked with on designing these wedding invitations lives in Minneapolis. There they were nestled around their phone, sipping red wine and flipping through my proposed invites. I could feel the warmth, the love and the excitement they had for each other and their much anticipated wedding day. ♥

The couple's vision was simple: a cozy, romantic, rustic winter wedding. One surrounded with an intimate gathering of immediate family for their big day. (When I say it was an intimate gathering, I mean intimate. The couple only sent out T-E-N invitations.)

Their color palette was ivory and burgundy. I used a creamy ivory card stock and paired it with a shimmery grey envelope, lined with a hand-illustrated evergreen twig pattern. For a pop of color, I used a burgundy silk ribbon as a belly-band.

I hand-lettered the couples names and key information on the invitation, and hand-illustrated winter evergreens to give the piece a cozy-chic look. The invitation included a standard invite, an R.S.V.P. postcard and weekend itinerary.

Here's how it all came together:

The shimmer on the envelope reminded me of how the sun hits the snow on those beautiful winter mornings. ♥

Everything came full circle with this gorgeous bride... you can see the bridal shower invitations I designed for her and shared earlier this year here.

Throughout the year I create custom invitations for special occasions and personal stationery items. Please contact me at if you're interested in working together.

Mother's Day is taking on a new meaning!

Megan Merry

Mother’s Day.

Next weekend is Mother's Day. A celebratory occasion I’ve always devoted to my mom, aunts, sister-in-laws, grandmas and the other amazing and influential women that have helped shape me over the years.

This year is a little different because my husband and I are expecting our first child(!). My definitions of motherhood are becoming more personal—and I couldn’t be more thrilled for the experience, the challenges I’ll encounter and the advice I’ll seek from all those women who’ve made an impact in my life thus far.

It’s a day I’m planning to take a moment alone to jot a few thoughts down about the mother I want to be to our unborn child.

A day I’m going to celebrate for the first time.

This card is printed on bubblegum pink paper from the French Paper Company. The design is screen printed with a flat gold metallic ink to add elegance and warmth to this card. The interior is left blank for you to write (or draw!) something your mom will love.

Order your card by Tuesday, May 3 and have it in time for Mother's Day!

Intimate Winter Wedding Bridal Shower Invitations

Megan Merry

A few short months ago I had the pleasure of working with the most amazing mom of the most beautiful bride! She asked me to create some bridal shower invitations to accompany her daughter’s upcoming rustic-chic, intimate winter wedding. (More on her daughter's wedding later!)

These invitations were printed digitally on a thick, crisp white stock of paper and paired with a burgundy envelope, providing the elegant look the bride was after.

Our business cards are in!

Megan Merry

Hooray—business cards!

We opted for a simple design in white, black and an inviting shade of yellow—because everyone can use a little sunshine in their life.

These are printed on thick (16pt) stock, with a matte UV coating, giving them a nice feel and presentation.
